Yes, right. Well I covered this in my last post. But there are other reasons why it’s actually a great idea….
I like my parents. We have similar hobbies, we get on well and I like being around them to help out when needed. Plus, they clean the house whilst I am out at work. π
We all love gardening, and cooking, and they have started to enjoy looking after my cat. My mum, who’s horribly allergic to anything with fur pampers him so much. He loves her a lot. He gets tuna from the tin, and any leftovers that she thinks he’ll eat. I try to look the other way, she keeps puffing her inhaler.
My dad and I also both love watching You’ve Been Framed, so that’s good.
The house we’ve bought is old, and quite big. It has 7 bedrooms, and a field – oh and two barns and a Victorian glass house. Here, it seems that big houses are relatively cheap, and small ones are hard to come by, so we thought it made sense to pool our resources and go multi-generational. So far so good.
Additionally we like a challenge, which is good because we’ve definitely got one here. Already we’ve discovered death watch beetle and wool eating carpet moth. My dad discovered the carpet moth on the morning of my granddads funeral. The “family tie” had been munched, so he had to cleverly tuck it into his suit. It was not a fitting tribute.
I’d like to think that in 10 years time we’ll have a place with central heating, and a kitchen that doesn’t have a carpet that smells like dogs. I also might have my own renovated barn. But that’s a long way off.
Already though we have a spectacular garden with some amazing trees, and there are already vegetables growing in the garden. It’s heaven.
