Day 3 here and we headed out to see what Chengdu had to offer, and walked towards Renmin park. It was a nice park, if a little noisy. But then that’s all relative, China is an inordinately noisy place. In the park there were people dancing, mainly middle aged ladies with fans.
There was also a man making an awful noise with some kinds of metal recorder/oboe. It was horrible. So horrible that Linz and I had to find the source of the noise and then video him. It was worse than that time my mum decided to learn the actual oboe. And even worse than that time I heard Mary Ross play the bag pipes….
The was a child’s adventure park, that should be renamed the horror park. It looked like a horror movie. We quite liked this park. Even though these things sound horrible.
We them walked towards Quinyang gong temple. But got side tracked by Baihuatan park. Which was really good. Lots of bonsai works of art and a nice chilled out atmosphere.
We then made it into Quinyang gong temple and cultural park after visiting a pretty dilapidated park next door by accident. Quinyang gong was amazing. About 10 big temple buildings of Taoist nature. It is still in use and although there were many tourists there were real people there too.
We then tried to get to a shopping street recommended by Troy but went the wrong way and so hailed a taxi back to the hotel, it cost 12RMB (£1.20) it was worth every Yuan.
I never thought I’d love air conditioning so much.
The mornings in Chengdu are much cooler but by 2pm it is sweltering. So we are going to have an afternoon our of the sun and try to sample the night life tonight.
The Chengdu fountains were really cool. Photos don’t do them justice. There were cool kids playing on the water too. The fountain displays take place in Tianfu square and are set to music. Really enjoyed watching them.
