First Published 9 August 2012 At 4am, on the hell-train, they turned on the lights. We arrived at 5.10. It is now 5.35 and we’re sheltering in the Chinese equivalent of KFC, named Dicko’s. It’s a bit of a joke, but we’re here and last nights sleeper wasn’t as terrible as the first one. I…

19 July – Short stay in Osaka
This was just one day in Osaka. We travelled from Tokyo on the shinkansen. We found our hotel relatively easily and them headed into Dotombori, where the young and fashionably dressed hang out. We didn’t really fit in here…… But it was great for people watching.
19 July – Heading to China
First Published – 20th July 2012 We’re on our way to China. Waiting for a ferry. We’re a bit scared of the ocean being rough. I’m behind with the blogs but I’m hoping tip catch up on the 2 day boat trip. So watch this space. The ferry looks seaworthy. Things we’ve done since I…

17 July – a Tuesday in Kyoto
First Published 24 July 2012 We meet the others (Eddie, Bridget, Saz and Jen) at around 9am and walked to the main high street of Kyoto. The procession of floats was happening between 9 and 1, and so we wanted to see these pass, thinking there might be a bit of a carnival atmosphere. In…

First Published 20 July 2012 Up and out nice and early to head to Mijajima island. We walked to the station and Ange probably bought hard boiled eggs at the 7-Eleven. Turns out Ange has a bit of an obsession with eggs. We got the train to Mijajima and then the ferry to the island. …

It was a cross between pancakes and omelette. A mix of eggs, flour, cabbage, and Japanese yam. Then we went to the sports centre, a arcade…
7 July – Mini Osaka Update
First published – 7 July 2012 This is the clearest day (visibility wise) that we’ve had so far, the air cleared because we had some giant thunderstorms yesterday, with lots of lightning at about 4.30am. The storms have cleared the air and so there’s now a decent view out of our window.
7 July – dry day
First Published 8 July 2012 Our first dry day here in Japan. Sun out all day, extremely hot and there are some burnt faces and arms around the pitches. Start of the dry season apparently – like it changes one day and that’s it. Blows my mind. We start playing tomorrow. We have USA and…

June 2012 – Getting ready for Japan & China notes
What’s this now? Not another blog? Yes yes. Another old blog. This one is stories from a 2012 trip to China and Japan. These were published as we travelled – some of them have been edited so that they make sense, there were a lot of typos. That’s what happens when you write on a…
